Downdraft paint booths work by drawing air through the booth and expelling it through the bottom. This creates a downward airflow that helps carry paint fumes and spray away from the painter.
The size and proportion of the booth depend on the need. Make sure the largest piece you'll be painting fits comfortably in the booth and that you can paint comfortably within those limits. If you're unsure about the proportions, do a test on cardboard first. Then transfer those sizes to the material you'll use to your booth. Something to keep in mind when deciding on the size: the larger bus paint booth, the larger the exhaust fan you'll need to empty it, and exhaust fan prices increase with CFM (cubic meters per minute) and PE (static pressure) ratings. Also consider adding a void space between the exhaust fans and filters; 1:1 paint booths use void spaces to equalize airflow through the filters.
